About the Role
At Quantum Systems, we are developing high-performance autonomous interceptor systems for demanding defense applications. The electronics architecture behind these systems must be compact, robust, manufacturable, easy to assemble, and reliable under extreme dynamic and environmental conditions.
We are looking for an Electronics Design Engineer to take ownership of PCB design, system wiring, cable harnesses, connectors, electronics integration, microcontroller interfaces, and the surrounding charging and support infrastructure for our Counter-UAS interceptor platform.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who is comfortable moving between schematics, PCB layouts, lab debugging, cable harnesses, embedded firmware, EMC topics, production constraints, and system-level integration.
You will design, build, debug, and improve the electronics backbone of the interceptor system. Your work will connect flight computers, guidance computers, ESCs, sensors, batteries, charging systems, connectors, cable harnesses, and ground infrastructure into one reliable and production-ready system.
What is your Day to Day Mission:
Design PCBs using Altium Designer, KiCad, or comparable tools, from schematic capture to layout, manufacturing data, and bring-up.
Create and maintain electronics architectures for the interceptor platform, including power distribution, signal routing, communication interfaces, and system wake/sleep behavior.
Support PCB prototyping, assembly, rework, debugging, revision management, and preparation for production.
Design and specify cable harnesses, connectors, pinouts, contact systems, and mechanical-electrical interfaces.
Select connectors and wiring concepts that are robust, compact, and as error-proof as possible during assembly.
Work on EMC-related topics, grounding concepts, shielding, signal integrity, and robust communication under demanding operational conditions.
Implement and debug simple microcontroller firmware for functions such as battery management interfaces, power-state control, wake-up logic, charging interfaces, and system supervision.
Work with communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, or similar embedded interfaces.
Support electronics integration inside the drone across multiple sections, including flight computers, guidance computers, ESCs, batteries, sensors, and antennas.
Support external system infrastructure, including charging electronics, multi-vehicle charging concepts, umbilical interfaces, and communication between ground infrastructure and drones.
Work closely with mechanical design and production teams to ensure electronics can be assembled quickly, reliably, and repeatedly.
Support field tests and flight tests by debugging electronics, wiring, logs, and hardware failures.
What You Bring to the Team
Degree in electrical engineering, electronics, embedded systems, mechatronics, or a comparable field.
Strong practical experience with PCB design, schematic capture, layout, bring-up, and debugging.
Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and soldering/rework tools.
Understanding of embedded communication protocols, power distribution, connectors, cable harnesses, and electronics integration.
Ability to write or debug basic embedded firmware in C, C++, Rust, or Python.
Practical mindset: you are comfortable building, measuring, debugging, and iterating quickly.
Structured approach to documentation, pinouts, revision management, BOMs, and production handover.
Ability to work across electronics, mechanics, software, production, and testing.
Experience with UAVs, robotics, automotive electronics, aerospace electronics, or defense systems.
Experience with high-current systems, battery interfaces, chargers, ESCs, or propulsion electronics.
Familiarity with EMC testing, environmental testing, or safety-critical hardware.
Experience designing electronics for mass production.
Hands-on hobby projects involving drones, RC aircraft, robots, embedded boards, or custom PCBs.
