(Senior) Embedded Software Engineer - Reliant

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you are a key member of our Architecture team, developing and implementing the core embedded software that enables our autonomous long-range VTOL platforms to operate safely, reliably, and intelligently in highly demanding operational environments.

In this role, you will be dedicated to our Reliant platform – our next-generation long-range VTOL UAS designed for autonomous ISR missions in GNSS-denied and contested environments. You will contribute to mission-critical software that powers autonomous flight, resilient navigation, payload integration, and edge computing capabilities for defense and security customers worldwide.

Together with our world-class team, you will push the boundaries of autonomous aviation, working closely with System Architecture, Flight Controls, AI, Hardware Development, Integration & Test, and Flight Operations to continuously improve Reliant's performance, reliability, and mission capabilities.



What is your Day to Day Mission:

  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize the Quantum-Systems embedded firmware stack for the Reliant platform

  • Develop safety-critical flight software for autonomous long-range VTOL operations

  • Design, implement, and validate new flight control, navigation, and mission management functionalities

  • Export flight control and navigation algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink and integrate them into the embedded autopilot framework

  • Implement, optimize, and maintain BSPs, peripheral drivers, communication interfaces, and sensor drivers

  • Develop embedded software for redundant and safety-critical avionics architectures

  • Integrate navigation sensors including IMUs, GNSS, magnetometers, air-data sensors, radar altimeters, and vision-based navigation systems

  • Support autonomous navigation capabilities in GNSS-denied environments through sensor fusion technologies

  • Develop and optimize communication interfaces for long-range command & control systems, payload communication, and vehicle subsystems

  • Support the integration of modular payloads including EO/IR sensors, SIGINT, EW, SAR, CRPA, and future mission systems

  • Contribute to robust firmware architectures enabling reliable operation in contested and degraded environments

  • Build, document, maintain, and continuously improve autopilot firmware

  • Prepare flight test releases, create flight test tickets, analyze flight logs, and support flight test campaigns

  • Debug and trace embedded software to improve robustness, code coverage, and system reliability

  • Maintain bootloaders, secure firmware update mechanisms, and firmware deployment processes

  • Improve firmware build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing infrastructure (GitLab CI)

  • Support production, manufacturing, and hardware validation tools

  • Collaborate closely with AI and Edge Computing teams to integrate onboard processing capabilities into embedded flight systems

  • Contribute to software architecture, coding standards, and continuous improvement of development processes


What you bring to the team:

  • Several years of experience developing embedded software for microcontroller-based systems

  • Excellent programming skills in C, with modern embedded software design principles

  • Experience with C++ is considered a plus

  • Strong understanding of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and embedded hardware architectures

  • Excellent knowledge of communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and serial communication interfaces

  • Experience working with RTOS-based embedded systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, uC/OS or similar)

  • Experience with low-level driver development, BSP implementation, and hardware abstraction layers

  • Good understanding of embedded bootloaders, firmware updates, and secure software deployment

  • Experience with debugging embedded systems using JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar tools

  • Ability to read electronic schematics and work closely with hardware engineers

  • Experience with Git, GitLab, and CI/CD-based embedded software development

  • Understanding of autopilot architectures and flight control software

  • Experience with sensor fusion, inertial navigation, or autonomous systems is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with UAV systems, robotics, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles is considered a strong advantage

  • Knowledge of safety-critical software development, fault-tolerant system design, or high-reliability embedded software is a plus

  • Experience integrating complex sensors or payload systems into embedded platforms is beneficial

  • Interest in autonomous flight systems, long-range navigation, and mission-critical aerospace applications

  • Highly self-motivated with a structured, solution-oriented working style

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams

  • Fluent English (minimum B2)
